Spooky Values
It is a joyous responsibility, for those of us who are able, to help alleviate hunger among those in need.
All monetary and food donations received through the Spooky food drive go directly to helping feed the hungry.
    • No operational costs are deducted from the food drive campaign.
Bridges can be built between diverse people through a common activity.
    • Age, race, religion, political belief, physical and intellectual ability are not factors determining participation in It’s Spooky to  Be Hungry.
    • All willing volunteers are welcome and are incorporated in a meaningful way into our food drive.
    • It’s Spooky To Be Hungry is intentionally inclusive, aiming to involve a diversity of volunteers.
Children learn morality primarily through action and example, rather than through words.
    • This volunteer experience is designed to incorporate children in close work with adults. The contributions of our child volunteers are respected and valued.
    • Children and adults working together can provide mutual inspiration.
Many of our neighborhoods can function in more supportive and positive ways, developing greater identities as communities of “good neighbors”.
    • Our food drive is primarily neighbor-to-neighbor and residentially based, always striving to emphasize the positive contribution of each neighborhood.
Volunteer work is good work. It enhances the giver, whatever his or her commitment and ability, often in greater degree than it does the identified recipient of the volunteer effort.
    • It’s Spooky to Be Hungry deliberately asks for only a brief commitment from the vast majority of volunteers, seeking to  provide a bridge to volunteerism for the many who may feel over-committed and over-scheduled in their daily lives.
    • Volunteers are given opportunities to experience firsthand how their individual contributions combine synergistically with the efforts of others to make a significant impact.
    • Volunteers with an interest in pursuing leadership development are provided opportunities for leadership growth and skills enhancement.
    • At every level of volunteering, It’s Spooky To Be Hungry seeks opportunities to positive feedback to and show appreciation of its volunteers.
We acknowledge and value the trust given to us, and strive to ensure that all volunteers and donors feel affirmed  through their commitment to It's Spooky To Be Hungry.
    • It is much more important that volunteers feel positive about their experience than it is they “produce” collection results.
It’s Spooky to Be Hungry is an independent grass-roots organization, without exclusive corporate, political or  religious sponsorship.
    • We gladly accept donations from and publicly acknowledge our gratitude to any contributor, but do not accept “official” sponsorship from any organization other than our parent organization, Big Changes Start Small, Inc.
