Bridges can
be built between diverse people through a common activity.
All willing volunteers are welcome and are incorporated
in a meaningful fashion into our projects. Age, race, religion,
political belief, physical and intellectual ability are not
factors determining participation. Our work together is intentionally
inclusive, aiming to involve a diversity of volunteers. We
aspire to have all our interactions, at every level -- from
donor, to project volunteer, to administrative volunteer --
serve to enhance the positive connection between us.
Children learn morality
primarily through action and example, rather than through
words.
Our volunteer projects are designed to incorporate children
in close work with adults, wherever possible. We believe
that children and adults working together can provide mutual
inspiration.
Volunteer work is
good work. It enhances the giver, whatever his or her commitment
and ability, often in greater degree than it does the identified
recipient of the volunteer effort.
Big Changes Start Small projects
deliberately ask for only a brief time commitment from the
majority of our volunteers. We seek to provide a bridge to
volunteerism for those who wish to be involved in doing “good
works”, but who may feel over-committed and over-scheduled
in their daily lives.
At every level of
volunteering, Big Changes Start Small tries to give positive
feedback to and show appreciation of its volunteers.
In any of our specific
campaigns, any funds or goods donated will be given directly
to the identified beneficiary of that project. No funds
derived directly from such activities will be used to offset
overhead costs.
We believe in our
corporate name, that big changes do indeed begin from small
efforts.
Our work aims to counter any prevailing notions of individual
powerlessness to make a difference. Volunteers are given
opportunities to experience firsthand how their individual
contributions can combine synergistically to make a significant
positive impact.
